Course Overview

This course explores the fundamentals of timekeeping, including the relationship between AM/PM and 24-hour time formats and their conversions. Students will learn about time zones, the role of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), and how to calculate time differences worldwide. Topics also include the International Date Line, Daylight Savings Time, and their effects on global scheduling. Practical skills include determining the current time in major cities and identifying optimal times for international communication.

• The relationship between AM/PM time expression and 24 hour time expression, and how to convert from one to the other;
• Why the world is divided into time zones;
• The significance of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), and how this can be used compute the time difference between distant time zones;
• Why there is an international date line, and where this is located;
• The purpose of Daylight Savings Time, and how this can seasonally affect the difference in time between two distant locations.
• Determining the current time and date for any major city in the world;
  
• Determining appropriate times to place international telephone call so that the person you call is likely to be at work, at home, awake, etc.
